At a private New Year's Eve party, an argument about the music escalates so badly that the party ends early.
January 2022
"Udo, shouldn't there be a way to …"
Jonas tells his long-haired friend Udo about that night. The question of why music keeps causing fights at parties turns into a first technical idea.
April 2022
The first prototype
The first prototype comes together in a garage: guests should be able to influence the music together, without the host losing control.
July 2022
The first big party
mixody runs for the first time at a bigger party with around 90 guests. Most people who try the prototype want it at their own next party right away.
2023
The project becomes a company
The project first grows into a small business, and later into today's mixody GmbH.

Used around the world
mixody runs at private parties, weddings, company events, in hospitality venues, dance schools and gyms — and it's no longer just used in Germany.
Two people who knew each other long before mixody did
Jonas and Udo didn't meet through a founder-matching program. They've been friends for a long time — long before a New Year's Eve argument turned into a company.

Jonas comes from the software industry himself — not a business guy without technical background, but someone who has spent 12+ years working between development, customers, sales and management.

Udo has been a professional software developer for more than 15 years — and the one who eventually has to turn a lot of Jonas' ideas into working code.

A dynamic that still works today: Jonas shows up with the idea, Udo figures out how to actually build it.
One argument turned into one simple rule
Guests should be able to help decide the music. The host should still stay in control. Everything mixody does today — from voting to blocklists to fallback songs — comes back to that one idea.

mixody isn't from a tech hub — it's from the Emsland region in rural northern Germany. mixody GmbH is headquartered in Wippingen, a village better known for farming than for startups. These days, the app is used far beyond Wippingen.
